Sometimes, I’ll see a photo of myself and just think “I look like a legit MODEL.” Growing up in the 90s, I never thought I’d feel that way about myself. I’ve always had broad hips and a strong hourglass shape, and all of the beauty icons I remember seeing growing up were absolutely rail-thin. Don’t get me wrong, that’s a beautiful aesthetic-- I just never felt like there would be a place where a body like mine would be celebrated outside of some pandering Dove soap campaign. It brings me a lot of joy to see so many independent artists and content creators of all shapes and sizes rejoicing in what makes them beautiful on platforms like this, and being appreciated by their audience. It’s truly amazing.
